tuesday at tiff

This week was the Toronto International Film Festival. So many stars out and about in the city, and when you work for a magazine, sometimes you score! This past tuesday I had the pleasure of getting all dressed up for a celebration of the opening of the film Janie Jones. There was not only free drinks, {BONUS!} but a chance to hear some fantastic performances by one of my favourite bands, Patrick Watson, and also a few cast members {Abigail Breslin, Allessandro Nivola & Gemma Hayes} of the film, at the Horseshoe. How cute is Abigail Breslen? And her voice was so great! All in all it was a very successful evening and made my week for sure. And after a big and busy week, I am thrilled to be resting at home. Hope you're all having a fantastic weekend, tiff or not!

I'm loving it

I love my parents! For Nicole's class, one of the assignments was to create different depths of field. {these are my short depths of field} With my parents being around, I thought I would take advantage of their crazy, loving personalities. Don't their faces just crack you up? I was laughing so hard I could barely snap any decent shots, and thought I would share them with you. Hope this brightens your week!

weekend wishing

Hurray for the weekend! With being so busy starting Nicole's photo classes this week, I finally had a moment to upload my cottage photos from last week. What a fun time it was, and am still slightly wishing I was there, if only to see another shooting star! Amanda and I both had out our cameras and were the shutter bugs {as usual...} We both got some great shots, and it's so much fun to see what we captured!

natural goodness

I am now back from a fantastic long weekend away and am starting to get back into reality and daily life. It was hard after sleeping til I wanted, enjoying a nice cup of coffee with friends and sitting around a campfire just soaking it all in...But I guess we wouldn't appreciate those days off if we didn't work or have a regular routine, right? Keeping with the natural theme, while getting caught up on my daily blog readings yesterday, I came across Wayne Pate. It sparked my interest immediately because of his natural and organic style. How gorgeous are those totes and why didn't I see these earlier, so I could carry it around to the cottage with me? I might just order one, so I can be reminded of those simple weekends away and be thankful for them...

Yesss...It's finally the long weekend! {ok, so I had yesterday & today off, so it's a super long weekend for me} I'm headed off to the annual cottage weekend with the crew, including amazing friend Amanda and her husband Justin. I am crossing my fingers that the weather cooperates and that it's full of campfires, laughter and lots o' s'mores! Hope you enjoy the weekend, and I'll be back on monday.

change of season

Ok, so I'm a designer..and there's this thing that designer's do. It's kind of a kept secret, BUT for you, my lovely readers I'm going to let you in on it. Ready? Here goes...we change our mind about every 5 minutes! I know, it's probably not just a designer thing, but really a creative person thing. There are so many design possibilities out there, font, colour, style, that sometimes I just can't make up my mind. My favourite colour changes every day, and ideas are constantly being churned out, no matter where I look. So with that being said, with the new change of the summer season into fall, you'll notice a change in my header: For Design's Sake, and a few small things here and there to come. I wanted to go old-school and classic. Hopefully you like it! I would love any feedback from you all too!

OH! Another thing to keep you in the loop, Short & Sweet is also getting a..makeover so to speak. I'm updating it {as I have been neglecting it with this new job and all.} I'm getting it all nice and pretty for the holiday season...so stay tuned!

the abc's of photos

It's official! I start Nicole's classes next week. If you haven't heard of Nicole Hill Gerulat, you should check her out! A beautiful photographer {blogger of A Little Sussy, and soon-to-be mom} in the US, Nicole has amazing patience and a passion for capturing life's moments, and a genius for doing these online courses, among other things. Though I consider myself semi-knowledgeable in photography, I can't wait to brush up on skills and find out what Nicole has to teach me. If you're new to the industry or just want to test your skills you should totally check it out. I'll keep you updated!

Yesterday I got so much fresh local fruit from the market. {except the figs, they're from California, but I just couldn't resist!} All my meals this week will taste so fresh and yummy. Here's cheers to a new week everyone!

Yesterday I had a lovely day with my parents visiting me in the city. One of my favourite parts of the day was taking them to Restoration Hardware. It's just up the street from my house and is oh-so-tempting! It was their first time and I loved seeing their faces. The pieces are so unique and the style is so relaxing, yet gorgeous. The couches that look like they were made from potato sacks are super soft and so comfortable to sit in, and they always have the best leather colours. Oh how I would love to have two of their chairs in my apartment!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend! It's been quite rainy and grey here, but that hasn't stopped me from really enjoying the fact that I can relax! I have been spending the weekend just treating myself with rest and I even slipped in a soothing yoga class this afternoon and now feel even better! I might try something different this afternoon too. How do you usually relax? I like to turn on the tv and tune out for a bit, but today I might turn the tv off and enjoy the silence of working on a puzzle or read for a bit, and then make a yummy dinner! Hope you're enjoying this lazy sunday too...

monday sun

Today I am wishing for some sun. I know it's monday, and is always a bit gloomy, but how about some sun to brighten my mood? I was checking out the daily blogs today, and spotted Leah Duncan's beautiful work on Oh So Beautiful Paper. Leah seems to be a 'jill of all trades' so to speak. She designs prints, scarves, pillows and just beautiful things in general. I love her use of pastel colours, a little on the retro side, but really cute. I would love to grab either of these pillow designs for my apartment. They make me happy!
