just do it

Photobucket

It's a super quiet Thursday here in the office. Sometimes these are my favourite days, where I can just enjoy my morning hot coffee, plug into some sweet tunage and design to my heart's content. These days are few and far between and I am determined to make it a good one. So I leave you with these words...Make Today Ridiculously Amazing.

I love books! I also love when a book not only has substance...but style. Take these awesome new designs of some of the good ol' classics. Of course they were designed by Jessica Hische, my favourite typographer! My favourite has got to be the Jane Eyre cover...it's the perfect combination of strong typography and clean lines...Ya, I think I need ALL of these...

{Thanks for sending these to me, Nick!}

I love Hipster Friday. I am complete with vintage attire {from Paris no less...heehee}, a cooler than cool attitude and yea, maybe I got some free beer on the street today from the Molson truck...no big deal. With that, I cheers you to an awesome day...Bring on the weekend!

I can't help but catch myself dreaming of being in another world today...{it's a whopping 49 degrees outside!} With that being said, I would like to introduce you to some of Adam Makarenko's work. I saw some of his photos last year through a friend {Thanks Evan!} and came across another article featuring him today. These magical worlds and scenes he creates by carefully and gently building dioramas first and then lighting and shooting them all. Each of these scenes tells a story and I'm just amazed at how beautiful they are. Sometimes other people's creativity blows me away...

If you live in Toronto, you can check out his work at the Bau-Xi Photo Gallery

It's really hot outside today, and for the rest of the week. I think I need ice cream. ASAP.

the tortoise always wins

Tortoise Watches

I haven't worn a watch in years. I don't think I've ever really found one that I really have liked and have a bit of a problem on what wrist to wear it on. Yes, I'm left-handed, but I mouse at work with my right hand. It's quite the situation... For a few years though, I've been debating between a gold or silver man's style watch. But then when I recently saw that tortoise shell is coming back, I was jumping for joy! Tortoise shell will win me over above silver and gold any day! I've been searching out a few different brands but still not sure which one I should choose. I like the bigger watch styles but with not so much bling...I'm a simple kind of girl.

take a step forward

Photobucket

Hello lovelies! Wow, the weekend snuck up so fast this week. I don't have too many plans, welcoming some of my family home from their BC road trip tonight and just chilling and spending time with them tomorrow before they fly back to New Brunswick and Boston...I can't wait to see them and hear all their stories. What an adventure they must have had!

Speaking of adventures, I spotted this above on my co-worker's pinterest this morning and felt it fitting for the start of a weekend.{what better time to have some small adventures?} I've learned a lot about life and just myself over this past month or so and wanted to share these words with you. Never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and explore what this life has to offer...

Hope you all have some fun this weekend!

tighty brighties

I'm a pretty neutral girl. I like my whites, creams, browns & greys, and will never tire of them. Though, since this year the neon is coming back, I feel like I should embrace the bright colour every once in a while. I must not be afraid! Love the mix of whites with royal blues or a neon yellow. I came across these beauties from kslademade on etsy the other day and can't stop thinking about the white tote bag, which could be brought through to next summer even if brights aren't included!

I love finding new music. There's just something about listening to new notes and chords that are put together so beautifully, in a way you've never heard before. A few months ago, I came across The Civil Wars. At first, I thought it was too folky, but after listening to it a few times, I now have to say it's one of my favourite albums. The lyrics are gorgeous and have touched my heart in many ways over the past little while, especially the one I included above, To Whom It May Concern.
Hope you take a time out on this monday and enjoy a little tunage!

"In some ways, music doesn’t get much more modest or minimalist than it is in the hands of The Civil Wars, a duo comprised of California-to-Nashville transplant Joy Williams and her Alabaman partner, John Paul White. They travel without a backup band, and on their first full-length album, Barton Hollow, the bare-bones live arrangements that fans hear on the road are fleshed out with just the barest of acoustic accoutrements. Each song is an intimate conversation, and no third wheels or dinner-party chatter are going to interrupt that gorgeous, haunting hush." – by Chris Willman

hip to be cool

Photobucket

"Sandi, you're so hipster you listen to bands that don't even exist yet." - says my friend Alice Grey, who dons a pair of black Wayferer glasses in honour of Hipster Fridays at the office. {and she doesn't even wear glasses HA!} Yup, it may have just started today but I think this idea could last a while... What girl doesn't like throwing her hair up into a messy bun and having it be instantly cool for a day? So here's to you Hipster Friday, may you live on...

A BIG thank you to Amanda for taking these awesome shots last weekend of us camping. Yup, I was the single girl, but these four peeps made it such a fun few days. The smell of campfire still lingers on one of my sweaters {I can't just bring myself to wash it quite yet...teehee, is that gross?} and I can't wait for more outdoorsy fun this summer...

your words are wise

Lately I've been lingering over the written word. I feel that when people are having hard times in their life, as much as a good comedic movie can make you laugh, more often than not, words and stories have such impact and tend to stay with you for a lifetime. No matter if it's a self-help book or just a chick-lit, a book seems a more intimate way to feel and experience a life you might dream of. I know I have about 3 or 4 books on the go. That's a bit too much for me usually, but somehow right now,  I'm finding comfort in beautifully written sentences and ideas that spark inspiration and possibility...

What's your favourite kind of book to read?

i'm a survivor

Photobucket

I conquered my first camping trip! With many wonderful memories spilling out from my head and heart, this post is dedicated to the awesome people I went with. The weather, scenery and company was perfect and couldn't have asked for a better first camping experience. We canoed through beautiful waters, ate way too much good food, shared talks by the campfire and laughed til our stomach's hurt. These are the best things in life...I just know it.

Stay tuned for photos from the trip soon my lovelies!
